"Human Rights in Times of Austerity" covered in thirty Brazilian publications and websites

January 23, 2018

Human Rights in Times of Austerity, the factsheet produced by CESR, the Instituto de Estudos Socioeconômicos (INESC) and Oxfam Brazil, presenting new empirical findings on the severe social and human rights impacts of Brazilian austerity, received coverage from at least thirty Brazilian publications and websites in the past month.

Most media outlets expressed alarm that in one year, the Expenditure Ceiling Act and its attendant austerity policies have already led to large federal funding cuts in food security, public medicine, education and  women's rights programs. CESR, INESC and Oxfam Brasil presented the factsheet to the Brazilian Congress on December 14th, 2017 for a public hearing organized by the Brazilian Human Rights Commission as part of a broader advocacy initiative to repeal the Expenditure Ceiling Act.

Outras Palavras, RedeBrasilAtual, #carta, Vermelho and Câmara Dos Deputados provided some of the most comprehensive coverage.
